What is Mu Stories?
Mu Stories school residencies have been a part of Theater Mu's community programs for more than a decade, and we often work with students who are immigrants or in minority racial or ethnic groups. But why do we teach theater exercises to students who may not have an interest in the performing arts? Watch the video to find out!
The 2023/24 Mu Stories residencies were funded in part by the F.R. Bigelow Foundation. If you'd like to support programs like this, donate at bit.ly/mu-eofy24

Aside from Lea Salonga, Regine Velasquez is the first solo artists who've crossed boundaries and has achieved massive success outside her home country. (In love with you with Jacky Cheung) She's also the best selling filipino artists of all time and inspired a generation of singers to build their careers through singing contests. Regine alone have won 200+ singing contests before debuting and she even won the 1986 asia pacific singing contest, it is like the eurovision of asia.

Can someone answer me? I have a question.. Why does he keep saying our indigenous music came from the east or has eastern influence? Didn't the filipino indigenous people just made their own music? I mean right from the beggining? The indigenous people were already living in the Philippines right before any foreigner discovered us, right?

Its simple Korea is successful and well known around the world of there K-pop Because of one important thing they have it's called Originality🤗 In K-pop Original music compositions, they have a teams and company's such as jyp yg and many more that has already established A Global branding. They master the art and practice it and perfectly excecute and when the time has come they released it world wide so they're target audience around the world will have profit and will continue the cycle In the Philippines they just don't have this well known organisation and structure's That will help musicians So in short they just doing rendition and covers Very important in the music industry is Originality and style those are the things will attract audience

Singing is part of the Philippines culture because our ancestors used their voices and instruments in praising different gods and goddesses of the old times. Music is heavily part of their daily lives, from passing on knowledge, marriages, tribal affairs and wars, different songs are used. When we were colonized by spain women would sing their attack plans on river banks to pass on the messages to different women and warn males of upcoming spaniards who would attack, they would wash clothes and pass on messages by singing about them so they wouldn’t be detected, the same thing they did during the japanese occupation of our lands. They used music to cope with lost lives, to celebrate new life, to praise gods, to show compassion, attraction, empathy, sympathy. Music wasn’t brought to us by our colonizers, they stole most of our history and traditions. It’s not something we celebrate.

The filipinos used singing in all walks of life, like serenading or harana, in the barrios theres always the singing contest, pasyon singing religious chants non stop for days, like the black community the mass starts and ends in singing, Parades processions, all have singing.. I think singing gave filipinos a sense of pride, since the Smokey mountains and Regine Velazquez won multiple awards internationally..

Why do Filipino-americans always has this false assumptions and narratives that the western styles only penetrated in the urban areas? Why are they keeping this false narrative everywhere? Western and hispanic style music penetrated not only in urban areas but more so in provincial rural areas. How do you think these provincea became christians and have spanish-style town plazas and baroque ancient churches?!?!? These arent only present in urban areas but provincial towns scattered all over the country
